PEOPLE... AND WIRELESS FLASH...

Dear all,
I LEARNT A NEW TRICK!!
It started when I saw a posting on http://jzawoo.fotopages.com of a birthday girl. The shots have black background!!! How did he do it??!!

When I saw him again at http://jemster.fotopages.com barbeque, I asked and he explained. Thanks
After that I started experimenting. #1 (http://risyars.fotopages.com) was shot at the barbeque which was attended by http://axcad74.fotopages.com, http://psycho.fotopages.com, http://touchrmgo.fotopages.com, http://alynnsis.fotopages.com, http://odowsun.fotopages.com, http://foxart.fotopages.com, http://fadzliali.fotopages.com, http://dasheela.fotopages.com, http://redtarantula.fotopages.com, http://jeebsion.fotopages.com, http://raksasa.fotopages.com and http://ijad.fotopages.com.

I've been practising this technique since including at a birthday (thanks Jiji) for http://ggkuc.fotopages.com (pictures #7, #8 and #9). I still remember how yummy the cupcakes made by http://kakyongns.fotopages.com was. The cakes were really good!!!!

As usual, my other shots (#2, #3, #4, #5 and #6) were shot around KLCC (Yep! I was surrounded by a lot of people #6 was shot right in front of the entrance facing the park.) About #4, I think I shot it but I'm not 100% certain that http://switakon.fotopages.com was taken by me or by http://munzir-fauzi.fotopages.com.

I'm just like a kid with a new toy, busy experimenting and learning . I've even emailed some photos to http://izhals.fotopages.com for his comments. Thanks...

Oh ya!! In case you are wondering how it is done. First you set both your camera and flash to wireless. Then, you change the shutter to be as fast as possible for flash use (in D70s it is 1/500) and the ISO to be as low as possible. Set the aparture to 5.6, hold the flash with your left hand at a side lighting position (careful that you don't cover the wireless sensor) and take a shot. If the background isn't dark enough, decrease the size of the aparture. I'm still experimenting with this form of Creative Lighting System. I still have more to learn and I hope to share more with you too...

Thank you so much again for visiting/commenting in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer... Please keep visiting and commenting...
Have a great week and a greater week ahead... Keep on shooting!!

Best regards,
Azli Jamil

ps: Just wanna share something, in most of my postings (this posting included), #5 is always my favorite photo...

erk....
azli, my face, my 'comot' face....

Excellent as usual!
I most attracted to ur pics arrangement. The horizontal n vertical slotted nicely. It shows that the entry was well planned.. not as mine.... suka ati jek....
Love #1 most.... due to different model's pose...
Like all.. !
re: nak tegur sangat... but bro looks so bz with the new style of shooting n makan cupcakes.. heheh.. next time may be!

Dear Bro Azli....

Image 1 : Love this one....perhaps it will be better if it is in Black and White.
Image 2 : Reaction differ although both appeared looking at same thing. One shocking and one smiling...wonder what are they looking at ?.
Image 4 : It seem that the girl's right eye is looking at us but her left eye slight deviated to the left...Squint may be ?.
Image 5 : Perhaps by asking them to pose more closer that this one will result much better "intimate". And the gal's hand looked distracting to me.
Image 7 : I prefer : Dead-Center Composition as that big hat already looked accupying the upper half of the frame.
Image 8 : I prefer someone else holding the baby.
Image 3, 6 and 9 : Simple yet Value of Commercial is in-situ.

saya suka gambar 1 kerana ianya penuh misteri.
saya berpendapat teknik gambar sebegini ingin menekankan efek latarbelakang hitam, jadi gambar 7 walaupun subjek yg comel tetapi kawasan latar hitam yg setara menyebabkan gmbar kelihatan biasa. komposisi2 gambar2 yg lain lebih menarik.
teruskan bereksperimentasi!!

great to see that you've learned a new technique, but i thought you already know how this was done? i mean, syahrin demonstrated it to you and moque in kuantan, right? anyways, putting that aside, number one works best for me. the others macam kurang menjadi sikit la. although i can tell that the lighting did come from the side, perhaps the angle and direction didn't quite give the effect you intended. i had the same problem when i first tried this technique, but thanks to moque, i managed to get the images i wanted. what we did was to point the flashgun downwards from a point higher than the subject. angle was probably 60 degrees from the side of the subject. you can also point it upwards from a lower point. whatever it is, i think you can keep on experimenting with the angle until you find the right one for you. oh yes, don't forget to twist the head of the flashgun so that it's vertical.

and to answer some of the people who are wondering, this wireless flash technique won't work with the d50. the camera doesn't have the wireless commander mode, unfortunately. yeah, quite a bummer.

wokey.. bagi gambar 1 : suke sbb ade gaya.. remember to play with dark/ blackground u must have something that I call x-factor.. and kat gambar nie wujud... posing nyer.. side light nyer.. also ekspresi dirinya...

for gambar ahkon plak.. tak suke sbb dier senyum... tak tau ler kalu u nk try something new ker... main background hitam then senyum... tp rase nyer tak bes... kalu wat untuk iklan pun rase cam tak cukup "catchy".. hehhe .. tak tau aper yg sesuai.. nk gune untuk kempan anti dadah pun tak sesuai.. nk gune untuk kometik pun tak sesuai.. ahhh tak dapat sy fikir.... aper yg sesuai...

so tu jer pandangan untuk sekali pandangan...

wokey... sekian dulu .. maybe next time boley lepak TT lamer lagi.. sbb tadi tumpang org jer...so tak sempat tadi nk borak..lebey2

HMMM WIRELESS FLASH...GOT TO TRY DIS Fri 14-Jul-2006 08:51
Posted by:IYKM  - [Link]
Hmm.. new way huh Azli..? Some people.. like me.. are a bit concern on setting the shutter to a high speed like 1/500. Dunno why lah. Another way to get a dark background is to set lower aperture.. like 8 or 9 or 10.. and of course.. direct flash from whatever direction u wish. Then shutter speed like 1/100 can ben applied. Can we have this under the sun..? I can't so far.
As for your shots.. the 1st would be my choice. The others doesn't seems bright enough for shots of these kind. But that's just my eyes. Do you have full body shots..? Full body shots with weird pose could be interesting.. have been wanting to try myself.. but yet to have any chance.
Sun 16-Jul-2006 23:26
Posted by:Budin  - [Link]
Ah forgot.. someone asked about the D50 with a SB800 for wireless flash lighting..? The SB800 have 2 ways in accepting wireless trigger. One is REMOTE.. the other is. what aaa..? Forgot already.. but you should know when you go to the setting. REMOTE setting only receives trigger from selected device.. like the D70s comander mode. The other setting trigerred by flash.. from any flash source.. like the D50 built in flash. Problem here is.. you can't have other photogs around.. or they'll be triggering your SB800 with their flashes that it would not have the chance to recycle. Just my 5 cents. Sun 16-Jul-2006 23:34
