PEOPLE... THREE WOMEN...
|
|
AND A MAN...
Dear All,
Thank so much again (even those spineless anonymous commenters!!!) for visiting/commenting in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer...
Have a great week and a greater weekend ahead.. Keep on shooting!!
Best regards,
Azli Jamil
ps: THREE WOMEN were shot at X-Games
A MAN was shot in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail last night, while we were waiting for our dinner. (Yes. I know that the picture is completely overexposed. I forgot to adjust the intensity when I did the wireless flash shot. The expression and the strong eye contact saved the shot. I think it turned out quite nice in b&w though in color it is so overexposed!)
pps: A STORY...
I first saw Coz (A MAN) on my first night in Bangkok in January , a day where Stefan and I watched sunrise in Angkor Wat, had tea at McDonalds KLIA and dinner in Khaosan Road (a backpackers area). After dinner, we hang around and watched people passing by. Then I saw this bare footed man approach a Thai street musician, borrowed his guitar and started singing (Quite a melodious voice I might add).
The next day, we found ourselves back in Khaosan Road, met and talked with a group of tourists including the gorgeous Australian beauty, Samantha. I showed them my sunrise photos. Coz joined in. I remember him borrowing one of the girl’s camera, put the camera on the ground and took a shot of them. The night ended on a high note.
The next day, we passed by Khaosan Road again and saw Coz from afar. Then he was gone and I never thought I would ever see him again…
Last Saturday, at the X-Games, as I was about ready to leave, I decided to shoot the Tae Kwan Do demonstration. Armed with my 50mm 1.8 lens, I decided to seek a better angle for my shots. Found my spot and started shooting. In between shots, I saw him! What a small world! I went, said Hi and was pleasantly surprised that he remembered me. We talked. I gave him my card and asked him to contact me. Didn’t think he would but he did.
He called on Monday and we decided to meet after office at KLCC Starbucks (my fav. hang out place). We talked and talked and when the sun sets, he became my tourist model. I shot pics of him around KLCC and my trademark tourist shots with KLCC as the background.
I took him to my favorite restaurant, Muhibbah Restaurant coz I know food would taste better with people whose company I enjoy. I do enjoy his company and his traveler’s tales and of course I shot some more including the test shot I posted above.
After dinner, I drove him back to his hostels where he packed as he was going to Penang on the midnight bus. I took more photos at the bus station including the farewell wave.
How I envy him.. He’s a bohemian traveler who has seen part of this region I hope to someday see but don’t think I ever would.
He is finally on the tail end of his adventure, hoping to make a few more stops along the way before going home a seasoned traveler, to begin life anew. I hope he knows that whatever he does, I wish him well always.
I know that each time I travel anywhere in the future, even for a fleeting moment, my mind would wander to Kasel Yamashita, a Canadian I met for such short time but I’m so certain I will never see again nor ever forget… Coz… Terima kasih…
Life goes on…

I'm truly happy with the result.
Mr. MUPA MAN, I'm really looking forward to photographing your loving family...
To all of you, thank so much again for visiting/commenting in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer... Only answers... As each of us see it...

Firstly, kudos to everybody involved in making Zooming 2006 a resounding success!!!! Who would have thought that 100+ photographers would have attacked the Zoo with resounding success, aye?
I went, not as a participant, but I really enjoyed the day . Suddenly, all these nicknames and fotopage addresses became living breathing people with different personalities and characters.
Thank you so much to the Organizing Committee, the experts and all who spared a Sunday for the experience and memories I will always cherish. Thank you..
I hope that all who went will post their photos. How often do we get that many photographers shooting at the same place and under the same condition. What a range of interpretations we have! Here are my shots... What do you think?
Thank you so much again for visiting/commenting in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer..
Have a great week and a greater week ahead.. Keep on shooting!!
Best regards,
Azli Jamil
ps: Why I chose these shots (apart from the bokeh effect). All shot were on A mode coz I want the 2.8 effect. Most croppings were done due to zoom limitation.
#1: I love the expression of the woman in the middle. Eye contact there.
#2: The shot I wanted, eye contact with the tiger. No shaky camera on the tiger picture (the leaves and the tiger's face are sharp and in focus). Basically, the tiger moved at faster speed than 1/60 therefore resulting in that motion blur. One of my early shots and my ISO was still set at 200.
#3: I shoot people and the boy pretending to be a plane captured my attention.
#4: Look at the focused expression... and the bokeh too.
#5: I composed the shot this way with the other chimp forming the blurred background. The thinking pose by the front chimp is an added bonus.
#6: My biggest lighting problem shot. Nonetheless, I got the eye contact.
#7: The lighting, color combination and the bokeh was too tempting to resist. A second more and I would have missed this shot.
#8: The lined up horns caught my attention. I waited for the eye contact moment.
#9: This, I don't know how to explain other than I just like the subjects and composition of the picture.

Dear All,
Thank you so much again for visiting and commenting in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer, and for the birthday wish.. Thank you...
Three postings ago, I mentiond that the KEY to taking photos is CONFIDENCE. Another KEY, to me, is MOOD. When my mood is off, so are my shots!!
In my next posting, I shall show how MOOD and MUSE combined to create photos that gave me joy and satisfaction. Oh ya! Let us not forget my long awaited new Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens too..
Have a great week and a greater week ahead.. Keep on shooting!!
Best regards,
Azli Jamil
ps: I had just realized today (06/04/06) that the text is missing. Wonder how that happened...

Dear all,
If I have offended anyone with my comments, I would like to apologize for being harsh but rest assured that I would keep on doing it coz what each person can expect from me is HONESTY.
I believe that the KEY to taking photos is CONFIDENCE. So to all those who include the word "CRAPPY" in their postings, please STOP doing that!!! It's not good for your CONFIDENCE!!!
Thank you very much for continuing to visit/comment in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer…
Have a great week and a greater weekend ahead
Best regards,
Azli Jamil
ps: I've included the setting for my photos. % crop means % of photo I cropped out. Shutter and aparture setting were set at Program setting. I tend to adjust my ISO more than shutter and aparture unless there was a particular effect I was going for.
pps: My Tag shot:
Nothing fancy about the shot. The setting for the shot is ISO 200, 1/60. f/1.8, 50mm, 75% crop. Flash was bounced off ceiling.
It's obvious that the shot was horizontal. The place was dark and I was assisting my friend shot a birthday party. After hours of shooting in low light smoky area, I saw my relection on a glass door. So... I took a snapshot of myself.

PEOPLE... VENTING...

Dear all,
The above photo of a boy clutching a new pair of shoes was taken by Gerald Waller at the Am Himmel orphanage, Austria in 1946. Look at the expression!!
The photo which appeared in The Best of LIFE is why I shoot people...
Thank you for visiting/commenting that keep inspiring and aiding me and other visitors in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer…

Warmest regards,

ps: These photos were shot last Friday between 14.49 and 15.10 in front of KLCC. Thank you to the witty Izhal http://izhals.fotopages.com/ for alerting me about the event and for taking the time to comment which aided me in making my final selection

PEOPLE IN BANGKOK...
|
|
Dear All,
Thank you so much for visiting/commenting that keep inspiring and aiding me and other visitors in the spirit of idea sharing where there is no right or wrong answer…
I would like take this opportunity to share my favorite poem with you...
“IF” by Rudyard Kipling (winner of Nobel Prize in Literature – 1907)
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
Please keep visiting and commenting. Be brutal, if need be! I would just say “Ouch!!”
Thank you again… Have a very nice day and a nicer weekend…
Best regards,
Azli
ps: #5 (10/2004) and #6 (04/2005) are some of my most treasured memories. #5 is one of my five favorite photos and I could never look at #6 and not feel sad.
